Blas was born between 1686 and 1688 in El Paso del Norte, Nuevo México, Nueva España.
Note:
In Dec 1692, Blas Martin, age six (b.ca. 1686), was enumerated in the household of his parents.[1] Blas was again accounted for as a member of this family in May of 1697.[2] When he sought to marry Rosa de Vargas Machuca, in 1705, he gave his age as 18, (b.ca. 1687), and listed his parents and declared he was a native of New Mexico.[3] In Nov. 1720, Blas, age 32, (b.ca. 1688), identified himself as being married and a resident of the Rio Arriba, when he was a witness in a prenuptial investigation.[4]
There is a marriage record for Ana María Martín, daughter of Blas Martín and Antonia Garcia, dated 1 May 1783 in Abiquiú Pueblo, spouse Luis Chaves.[8] This Ana María was born about 1761, when Blas was 75. There are three possibilities:
Antonia García and Antonia Ulibarri are the same woman, with parents or grandparents named García and Ulibarri. There is circumstantial evidence that this is true. There is a baptism record for Margarita Martín, born in 1752 to Blas Martín and Antonia Ulibarri.[9] There is also a diligencia matrimonial (prenuptial investigation) for Margarita Martín and Fernando Gallegos in 1769.[10] It says Margarita was 17 years old (born about 1752) and her parents are Blas Martín and Antonia García.
Blas had a natural child with Antonia García. This is unlikely because Ana María's marriage record says she was the hija legitima (legitimate daughter) of Blas Martin and Antonia Garcia.[8] Blas Martín Serrano was married to Antonia Ulibarri when this Ana María was born.
Blas Martín and Antonia García are a completely different couple. This is also possible. There were two men named Blas Martin mentioned in the 1750 Census records.
In Santa Cruz de la Cañada, Blas Martin, his wife, one daughter; 11 in house.[6]
In Chama, Blas Martin, his wife; 18 in family.[11]
